Rivertown USA was the name used for an Antique Show created in the town of Clarksville several years ago. As an effort to describe this small community for visitors, it seemed that the presence of the Mighty Mississippi should play a major role in the description of the host town. In 2023 a project is underway which is intended to protect a major part of town that has been frequently affected by flooding and thus bringing special attention to this small town engaged in a massive & unique effort.
Beyond that, today the big question for those addressing the visitors, particularly the Visitor Center personnel, is how to present an image that matches the desires for Clarksville. What are the strengths and capabilities of this City and what does it offer to the visitor and to those who live here? What are the first impressions of visitors? What do they see when they drive through the main thoroughfare? What is their image in residential areas? Are there signs of vibrancy and health or decay and neglect?
A City that provides for its citizens, has qualities that make it attractive and strives to present service on par with its quality, will no doubt develop a healthy reputation. Clarksville provides water and sewer service that meets the most stringent standards and is fortunate to have employees who care for the community and do all within their ability to maintain and improve the areas of their employment. The areas of service by employees includes streets, equipment maintenance, office work & proper record keeping, and so much more.
We are at a particular and interesting time with a multitude of opportunities available. The long awaited funding for the Flood Defense System is secured and work is underway. There is a designated period of time for its completion and during that time, it is of major importance that Clarksville steps into action of revival and rejuvenation. It will not happen on its own, it will require council, cooperation, time and effort. It will require the residents to participate in the planning stages, at a high level. It will require leadership with patience and dreams, favoring strategies that benefit everyone.
