Mayor Smiley Receives Congressional Medal of Merit

Clarksville Mayor Jo Anne Smiley received the Congressional Medal of Merit award for her efforts in the 2008 flood recovery.

Clarksville Mayor Jo Anne Smiley received the Congressional Medal of Merit award for her leadership in galvanizing local efforts to combat the flood of 2008 as well as assisting with recovery efforts following the disaster.

U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof submitted a statement to the record on September 9, 2008 in recognition of the dedicated and selfless work of the Mayor and volunteers in combating flood waters along the Mississippi River during the flood of 2008.

The award was established in 1942 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to honor civilian citizens of the United States and their allies for their exceptional service during World War II. The award is now used by members of Congress to recognize the achievements of their individual constituents.
